A traditional Indian art form has become popular again with customers from all across the world.

Thewa jewellery, a Rajasthani art form for 350 years, is becoming popular again, using 23-carat gold foil set against colourful glass.

Vishnu Sodhani, from a jewellery house selling Thewa, said: "Thewa art serenades the mystical and the modern. It has designs inspired from natural forms like peacock and elephants. These collections are very elegant and feminine."

The pieces of coloured glass are encased in gold plated silver and then designs are worked out on glass pieces with gold leaf.

Particularly popular Thewa items are pendants, earrings, bracelets, mirrors, jewel cases and small indoor boxes.

"Thewa ornaments have not only succeeded in entering the markets but have also turned into a fashion statement," V K Manoj, who recently organised an exhibition of Thewa jewellery in India, told Press Trust India.
