Pendant discovery declared as treasureTuesday, 12th April 2005 (3918 views) A rare gold pendant discovered in Shropshire has been declared as treasure.The Anglo Saxon pendant is of national significance and dates from 600AD, according to the Shropshire Star. Peter Reavill, finds liaison officer for Shropshire and Hereford, commented: "It is a very, very important artefact for the county and possibly for the nation." The item was unearthed by a couple searching the area with metal detectors in a mystery location near Oswestry. Coroner John Ellery declared the item as treasure today, although it was first discovered in November. The oval pendant has a well-polished garnet or glass stone and is set in gold. It was sent to the British Museum and is currently being kept there until a treasury valuation.
