Double Olympic gold medallist Kelly Holmes was at Buckingham Palace today to receive a top honour from the Queen.

Now to be known as Dame Kelly Holmes, the sports star certainly looked the part in her Jasper Conran suit, Jimmy Choo shoes and white gold jewellery.

Dame Kelly set off her soft white suit with diamonds and white gold jewellery, including a necklace and earrings.

The 800 metre and 1500 metre champion said: "When I heard the national anthem, at the start of the investiture, it brought tears to my eyes, because it brought back memories of standing on the rostrum in Athens.

"I have won 14 major medals and to top it off with this is fantastic. The Damehood is from the state and to be named Sports Personality of the Year was from the public."
