Dubai looks to boost jewellery production even furtherMonday, 7th March 2005 (3859 views) Jewellery production is set to rise by over a quarter in the next three years in Dubai, according to current statistics. The recently launched Jewellery and Gemplex at the Dubai Pavilion is hoped to help support this growth, according to AME Info. Dubai is looking to further increase its jewellery industry and achieve greater international integration. Ahmed bin Sulayem, chief operations officer, DMCC, stated: "Dubai is clearly the infrastructural and geographical hub for jewellery production and, with its focus on high-end manufacturing, DMCC initiatives and partnerships have helped foster and develop Dubai as a destination where international manufacturers can consolidate their operations." Latest figures show that around 45 tonnes of jewellery was made in Dubai in 2003, a figure set to increase by 25 per cent by 2008. Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group (DGJG) information also suggests that 95 per cent of tourists to Dubai purchase gold and jewellery, so there is a key need to increase output further. It is hoped a number of moves will help to boost the jewellery industry further, with plans including free zone status, secure vault facilities, purpose-built refineries, workshops and assay facilities.
