Latest results from the Assay Chamber show that Russia's production of gold jewellery increased by 22 per cent last year.

According to Interfax, Russia produced 26.942 million items of gold jewellery, using 60.784 tonnes of gold.

The amount of gold used had increased by 14 per cent compared to 2004.

Production in the jewellery sector overall was up, with the amount of platinum, palladium and silver jewellery also increasing.

The chamber hallmarks all jewellery produced and imported to Russia.
