Gold designer adds shine to the starsFriday, 7th January 2005 (4636 views) Jewellery designer Sarah Graham's pieces have appeared on a host of Hollywood stars and in a number of movies.Ms Graham, who is based in Venice, California, and her husband, Michael, turn materials such as 18ct gold, blackened steel, Akoya and Tahitian pearls, and black, white, and cognac diamonds into jewellery in signature colours of black, gold, and white. Ms Graham claims she does not consciously make jewellery for the stars, though one of her rings was worn by actress Kim Basinger in the movie Cellular and actress Sharon Stone has several pieces. In the movie, Ms Basinger wears a Triple-Wide Oyster Band, an 18ct white gold ring with an opening designed in the shape of oyster. The actress also wore the ring and a necklace designed by Ms Graham to the film's premiere. Ms Graham says much of her inspiration and many of her materials are drawn from nature and her products are given names derived from the natural world, such as Stepping Stones, Bamboo, River Rock, Oyster, and Conifer - are derived from the natural world. She told the Toledo Blade: "I try to make the jewellery feminine yet substantial, and combine contrasting materials together, such as steel and diamonds. I see my prototypical customer as a strong, accomplished woman with graceful, natural beauty - a woman who wants her jewellery to display her self-confidence in taste and style and to subtly command attention, whether worn with everyday attire or evening elegance." Sarah Graham Metalsmithing is five-years-old and pieces are sold in around 100 jewellery stores in North America and Asia.
