Similar to UK consumers, shoppers in the US have been leaving their festive purchases until the last minute.

However, according to reports from the US they are wise to do so since a number of retailers, including jewellers, are now offering top discounts on a range of goods.

One example of a great deal for jewellery lovers is popular retailer JCPenney.

According to Click on Detroit, the store is offering 60 per cent off of all gold and silver jewellery and some diamond bracelets have 50 per cent off.

"We have a lot of merchandise that we mark down 50 per cent off before Christmas," Lou Peters, JCPenney store manager explained.

It is thought that retailers are depending on the last few days before Christmas to bring their profits up after consumers were slow to shop earlier on in the period.
