Gold jewellery is becoming an increasingly popular present for people in Bangkok, according to a new survey conducted this week.

The Bangkok Poll looked at 1,164 adults and found that gold jewellery was the third most popular present to receive during the New Year period, beating money and fruit.

According to MCOT, there is a big difference between what presents people wanted to get and what they were going to give to others.

Each year Bangkok holds a Gem and Jewellery Fair, which has now been running for 34 years and this year, saw over 1,000 people taking part.

This year Bangkok tried to make the event more international and saw more diversity and organisation, with a special section dedicated to gold.
