Gold earrings found in BulgariaMonday, 6th December 2004 (4112 views) A pair of gold earrings has been found during excavation works near the Black Sea city of Nessebar. The jewellery is thought to have belonged to a woman buried during the Hellenic period, according to Tanya Dimova, chief of the Nessebar Museum. Bulgarian archaeologists marvelled at the high 24-carat quality of the metal. The intricate earrings were made by a skilled craftsman and had a lion's head motif. Archaeologists are hoping to find more jewellery as they excavate a second tomb. The two tombs are part of the ancient Mesemvria necropolis, where wealthy people were laid to rest.
