US shopping season beginsMonday, 29th November 2004 (4544 views) Consumers flocked to shopping areas across America on Friday as the holiday shopping season was officially started.A host of stores, including jewellers, were ensuring they offered the best deals for consumers to ensure positive sales results. Some stores opened two hours earlier than others to grab hold of shoppers first and many consumers were found queuing to get the best bargains in the early hours of the morning. Reports suggested that jewellery and electronics sales were particularly good. Spokeswoman for America's Mill's shopping centre, Rebecca Sullivan, told USA Today: "Sales of yellow gold gained on the white and platinum of years past." Among the offers provided during the busy shopping weekend was a 70 per cent off sale in JC Penney on all its gold earrings and necklaces.
