Jewellers to revamp class ring marketMonday, 22nd November 2004 (4184 views) Class rings, which are given in the US as a memorable keepsake, symbolising school affiliation and pride, are now a far cry from the traditional pieces of the past.Parents in US are now having to pay out for rings that can cost around $1,100, as prices for the jewellery rocket, according to Detroit Free Press. Examples of the latest designs on offer include the girls' Achiever Collection, which ranges in price from $270 to $690, with cubic zirconia items to high-end white or yellow 14 carat gold with diamonds. In addition, prices for a boys' range can cost as much as $1,155, whereas many parents remember paying just $50 in the past for their keepsakes. However, today only around a third of people purchase the rings and one of the leading makers of high school class rings, Jostens, has reported a slight decline in the sale of class rings. To help revamp the market, firms are now turning to technology to help students personalise and customise rings and Jostens is offering a host of options on its website. In addition, necklaces and bracelets are also being offered as an innovative choice.
