India's gold industry to receive a boost

Wednesday, 17th November 2004 (4427 views)

The Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation (DSIDC) in India has announced that it is planning action to help boost the gold and jewellery industry in the capital.

A host of projects are planned, including an assaying centre to certify gold quality and a centre of excellence in design, manufacturing, research and export of jewellery.

According to the managing director of the DSIDC, Jalaj Shrivastava, the various moves will help dramatically boost the industry.

At present nearly all jewellery is sold without a hallmark seal, another issue that the corporation hopes to address if its centre is approved by the Government, the Indo Asian News Service reports.

The design centre will help boost the skills of workers by offering in-house training and will also offer the necessary infrastructure and facilities for manufacturers and exporters.
