Room service with a golden touch

Monday, 8th November 2004 (3826 views)

Luxury hotels and the room service they offer appear to have gone up a notch, with a host of hotels in various countries offering services that have to be seen to be believed.

Among the extravagant hotels currently offering consumers top reasons to part with their cash is the world's tallest hotel, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, according to the Scotsman.

The hotel has 202 rooms adorned in a host of gold coloured items, which are all made from the precious metal - including large ceiling mirrors, a gold television stand and lamps.

In addition, in New York there is a gemologist who on request will bring jewellery to guests' rooms so they can truly pick the item of their choice.

The increase in extravagant luxuries and top service from hotels are thought to be due to higher levels of disposable income, meaning that an increasing amount of people can enjoy holidays which used to once be restricted to simply the richest of consumers.

It appears luxury is no longer based on meeting guests' needs who want the best of everything, but it is in fact more important to offer services that guests did not even realise they needed.
