Gold still precious metal of choice for Indian marriages

Friday, 29th October 2004 (4822 views)

Gold is continuing to impress in India, as consumers claim they still prefer it for jewellery gifts and marriages.

The precious metal has a special significance in celebrations and customers are still opting for the latest designs in mangalasutras, earrings, bangles and rings, according to Web India.

In addition, consumers are keen to purchase traditional gold ornaments and items such as armlets and waistbands.

Preferences are changing though, with customers now looking for jewellery that they can carry around and wear because of its light weight.

A current demand jewellers now have to consider too is designs and making them suitable to wear with both Indian and western outfits, since a lot of Indian women do not wear traditional clothes all the time.
