Thursday, 14th October 2004 (5665 views) Gold jewellery was among a host of products praised by India's textile minister Shri Shankersinh Vaghela today.<BR/><BR/>The minister was presenting the 'UNESCO - CCI Seal of Excellence Awards for Handicrafts Products in South Asia', which have now been running for two years.<BR/><BR/>According to the minister the key concerns for the jewellery industry and other creative sectors were social and environmental factors, quality and marketability.<BR/><BR/>The awards were first set up two years ago and the minister hopes they will play a big role in upgrading the standards of artisanal products even further.<BR/><BR/>In total 35 products from the area were selected for an excellence award, including items made in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.<BR/><BR/>A number of special events are also being organised as part of the awards ceremony.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=3615807"/>
