Ortak announces expansion plans

Tuesday, 24th August 2004 (4310 views)

Orkney based jewellery company Ortak is to extend its business further into the UK market, under a new £1.4 million investment programme.

The project for the 37-year-old firm is being funded by £400,000 from Orkney Enterprise.

Managing director, Alistair Gray, told the Scotsman: "As with most other jewellery manufacturers, we have seen increased competition in recent years from foreign imports. To compete effectively we have to enhance our product range.

"We have to reposition ourselves as a fashion-led designer of contemporary jewellery, selling and marketing our products to the wider UK market."

The company is currently the largest designer and manufacturer of gold jewellery in Scotland.
