An honest taxi driver in Dubai has given up Dh1 million worth of jewellery after it was left inside his car by a tourist.

The Dubai Transport Corporation had received a call from a tourist about the lost jewellery but he did not have any further information.

Ammar bin Tamim, director of administration and marketing affairs, Dubai Transport Corporation explained: "Through our Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) system, we were able to identify the taxi where the tourist had left his bag. We immediately called the taxi driver of Dubai Transport."

To thank the driver for his honesty the corporation offered a reward of a certificate and money, according to the Khaleej Times.

However, this was not the first case of gold items being left behind - in May this year gold jewellery ornaments worth Dh 35,000 were also left in a taxi.
