Among the items up for bidding are an 11.7 carat diamond ring, a necklace, brooch and gems. A jewellery expert from Sotheby's, told the Scotsman: "The appearance of these jewels at auction is likely to create considerable interest, given their freshness to the market and the fact that they once belonged to one of the most iconic figures of the 20th century. "The jewels capture the incredible aura which surrounded Maria." The auction follows a previous event in December 2000 where hundreds of personal items belonging to the legendary singer raised over £900,000.
