Consumers look to the past for jewelleryThursday, 29th July 2004 (4391 views) Vintage jewellery was a key feature in top designers' fall 2004 collections and now consumers are hunting out the real thing. It is thought women now want vintage jewellery because it is different and looks less mass-produced. Vintage jewellery collector Pam Wiggins explained to News 8 Austin: "We are moving away from just strictly collecting it, where people thought it was just stuff that my grandmother had, to things that are actually fashionable that people want to wear right now and we're moving into fall we should see that even more." Typical pieces include one owned by Ms Wiggins - a heavy gold plated necklace that can also be worn as a pin. Consumers are advised to purchase items from good manufacturers and look for signed pieces if they want authentic vintage items.
