US postal service launches commemorative jewellery stampWednesday, 28th July 2004 (4588 views) A new two-cent stamp is to be launched by the US postal service to commemorate Navajo Jewellery as part of its American Design series.The stamp will be unveiled on August 20 and features a painted detail of a necklace by the company. US Postal Service Executive Director of Stamp Services David Failor commented: "The Postal Service is proud to highlight the talents of Navajo with the latest edition of our highly regarded American design series of postage stamps." The new series is to showcase objects from various regions, eras and ethnic cultures. Navajo was chosen since jewellery making was an important aspect of its culture before the turn of the 20th century, and items now use gold and precious stones to create contemporary and traditional pieces.
