Chennai plays host to antique jewellery exhibitionTuesday, 6th July 2004 (4709 views) An exhibition aimed at "rediscovering the glory of the past years" is underway in Chennai, displaying a range of antique jewellery from Rajasthan, rubies that adorned the Chettinad kingdom, and treasures from the Malabar coast.The 15-day expo, organised by Chennai-based Prince Jewellery features finely-crafted gold jewellery and masterpieces on display include the `Thandatti' ear ornaments that are believed to be a stylised version of the snake earring worn by Lord Shiva when he danced the Tandava as Nataraja; 'Oddiyanam' or the ridge waist belt from the 19th century; and `Kasu Malai', the necklace of coins. Princeson Jose, director of Prince Jewellery, told ChennaiOnlineNews: "The exhibition presents a spectacular collection of 'ancient secrets', offering old world charm in jewellery and providing an opportunity to relive the glory of the past for jewellery enthusiasts." The exhibition, which finishes on July 18th, was opened by the Tamil film actress Khushboo.
