New jewellery collection offers golden opportunity for Indian family

Friday, 11th June 2004 (3986 views)

A Norfolk department store has seen jewellery flying off displays, with a new collection on sale raising money for a poor Indian girl.

Over 40 pieces of jewellery selected by 17-year-old Gyanashwari, from Bangalore, is being sold in the Jarrold store, bought to Norfolk by the Eastern Daily Press (EDP).

Funds from the sale of items are to go towards helping the young girl and her 22-member family and to help offer support. In addition a special needs school in Bangalore will also receive funding from the project.

Selina Clarke, Jarrold's senior fashion accessories sales consultant told EDP 24: "The jewellery has been very popular, and we have sold over half of the stock now.

"Customers seem to love the fact that the jewellery is very unique. They know they are not only supporting an Indian family but also purchasing something no one else will have."

Proving popular, customers have even been asking store workers when the next batch of jewellery will be arriving.

The selection of handmade items includes earrings, pendants and bracelets and are all made by craftsmen from all over India.
