Thailand and Bahrain work together to form jewellery exchange centre

Tuesday, 8th June 2004 (4118 views)

A jewellery exchange centre is to be set up in Bahrain with the help of Thailand.

Thailand which has an annual $2.5 billion gemstone and jewellery export figure will help by transferring expertise and necessary training facilities, according to the Bahrain Tribune.

As part of Bahrain's side of the deal, it will allow the Thai private sector to bid for construction projects in Bahrain.

Thailand has already been helping participate in Jewellery Arabia since its launch. However some are against the move and not cooperating, with some banning or reducing the size of participation.

Director General for South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs at the Thai Foreign Ministry Snanchart Devahastin claimed: "We're confident of our jewellery standards, and the government would never encourage jewellery manufacturers to copy any brand names."
