Luxury retailers that sell goods such as gold jewellery have reported strong sales for April in the US.

Analysts believe the positive performance has been influenced by affluent customer buying, according to Professional Jeweler.

In addition women have been prompted to buy more luxury goods as new fashions and styles with unique colours or designs have been launched.

According to reports luxury retailers performed well by differentiating their products from those available elsewhere.

Accessories such as jewellery are proving particular popular as women respond to the current trend of 'looking pretty'.
