Gold pendant used to win Australian jewellery competition

Friday, 14th May 2004 (4287 views)

A jewellery competition is being held this month in Australia to hunt out people with top talents.

The national World Skills competition has been introduced to test jeweller's basic skills and runs for three eight-hour days.

Winning first place at the Sydney awards, La Vault jewellers apprentice Andrew Kershaw is hoping to take part in the national competition in Brisbane and if successful will be able to go on to compete at international level.

"We will have to make a similar piece of jewellery to the last competition, an 18 carat gold pendant," he explained to Boorowa News.

"If we want to buy back the piece we design it will be about $500 for the gold. The whole thing will probably end up costing me $1500 to $2000," he added.

Competitors will also be judged on physical and mental fitness and planning ability.
