Friday, 7th May 2004 (3935 views)

A new study has offered an insight into the gold jewellery buying habits of brides-to-be.

Figures compiled by the Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC) found that 14 carat yellow gold was the most popular metal of choice for over 50 per cent of participants.

In addition two-tone white and yellow gold was rated as third most popular, according to Professional Jeweler.

When questioned on price, 14 carat yellow gold wedding bands were also the most popular type for men, with 60 per cent of people spending between $1,000 and $5,000 on an engagement ring.

The second most popular choice for grooms was 18k white and yellow gold bands, with the majority of people (35 per cent) spending more than $500.

JCOC's research was carried out between March 23 and April 1 and was based on responses from 2,472 consumers.
