Friday, 7th May 2004 (5790 views) Chinese jewellers are set to change designs from platinum to white gold in order to meet increasing demand, according to precious metals consultancy GFMS.<BR/><BR/>A new survey released by the company argues that retail demand for white gold has increased during the last 18 months as the result of a price rise in platinum, reports the Financial Times.<BR/><BR/>According to Peter Ryan, senior consultant at GFMS, Chinese jewellery manufacturers' margins were around 25 per cent for gold jewellery rather than two per cent for platinum.<BR/><BR/>GFMS claims that platinum pricing has caused companies to not bother replacing their platinum stocks.<BR/><BR/>White gold is a gold alloy containing palladium or nickel.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=2573098"/>
