Gold jewellery demand high as US prepares to celebrate Mother's DayWednesday, 5th May 2004 (4081 views) High demand for gold jewellery is expected this weekend in America as Mother's Day approaches.Latest research shows that on average consumers plan to spend around $98.64 on the event, with jewellery the top category of choice, according to National Jeweler. The National Retail Foundation (NRF) 2004 Mother's Day Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, conducted by BIGresearch for NRF also suggests that average jewellery spending will reach $62.40 per person. Further gold demand will be created by other shoppers who claim they will also use the traditional day to buy gifts for daughters and grandmothers. "Though Mother's Day celebrations and gifts will vary, many consumers see this as an important day to honour the women in their lives," Tracy Mullin, president and CEO of NRF explained.
