Gold is proving a hit with the stars and on the catwalk as the precious metal is being used in fashion.

Top stars including Renee Zellweger, Scarlett Johannson and Jamie Lynn DiScala have all been seen on the red carpets in the US in golden gowns or flashing shimmering gold jewellery.

Gold outfits are proving increasingly popular at celebrity events achieving a Cinderella effect for actresses wanting to impress, according to The Age.

Fashion in America has also turned to using high amounts of gold, by including it in thicker knitting yarn and tweed materials as well as super thin tightly meshed threads.

Stars have been wearing long elegant gowns that flicker with every move, often with a trail on the back and accompanied with some sparkling jewellery.
