Stars create new jewellery business to exploit rap star influence

With the influence rap stars are having on the latest fashion trends in America, a host of stars are turning to the fashion business and launching their own lines.

Originally releasing their own clothing and footwear, stars are now beginning to move into the jewellery sector with Russell and Kimora Simmons, along with M. Fabrikant & Sons set to soon start Simmons Jewelry Co.

In addition Damon Dash of the Roc-A-Fella empire (that encompasses Rocawear) has also revealed plans to launch Tiret New York jewellery and accessories.

Kathryn Whelan of The Lark at St. Louis's Northwest Plaza commenting about the popularity of the look explained: "It's a lifestyle. If everyone around you is dressing this way ... And, the videos play a big part."

Rap and Hip-hop stars such as Jay-Z, P Diddy and Nelly are well known for their mass of gold jewellery and chains, all used to form part of their look.
