Wednesday, 21st April 2004 (4234 views)

An 18 carat gold £33,000 Tiffany ring has been sold by actress Kim Basinger to raise money for an animal welfare charity.

The gold band, topped with a 3.7-carat diamond was for her engagement to ex-husband Alec Baldwin and is predicted to sell for between $30,000 and $40,000 at the Beverley Hills jeweller that bought it.

Yossi Dina of South Beverly Wilshire jewellery & Loan told Reuters: "I got it for a fan. They'll pay crazy money for that."

Commenting on her sale, Ms Basinger told the New York Daily News: "It's a good cause. And how many women do you know who wear their ex-husband's jewellery after they've divorced?"

An eternity ring, necklace and diamond bracelet were also put up for auction for The Performing Animal Welfare Society.
