Basinger auctions gems for retired circus animals

Thursday, 15th April 2004 (4315 views)

Actress Kim Basinger is selling a collection of her jewellery next week to raise money for retired circus animals.

Christie's estimates that the 11 items of jewellery, including the star's 3.7-carat diamond Tiffany engagement ring from former husband Alec Baldwin, could fetch as much as $100,000 for The Performing Animal Welfare Society, a California group that runs a refuge for abused and retired elephants, lions, bears and other wildlife.

The Oscar-winner's gems also include a $8,000 to $10,000 multi-gem necklace with a butterfly motif, also from Baldwin, a diamond bracelet in the Art Deco style, estimated to be worth $25,000 to $35,000 and a pair of gold Cartier earrings, valued at $800 to $1,200.

Basinger and fellow actor Baldwin's nine-year marriage ended in 2002.
