Indian handloom company plans jewellery and silks malls

Wednesday, 14th April 2004 (4167 views)

A handloom showroom is reportedly planning to set up a chain of malls in South India, selling gold, silver and diamond jewellery, as well as traditional Kanchi silks and handlooms.

The showroom, based at Vijayawada, is establishing its first mall in Dwarakanagar.

V Rajendra Kumar, managing director of Kalaniketan, told BharatTextile.com that the company had established three showrooms in Hyderabad between 2002 and 2003, and also had outlets in Cleveland in the United States, with plans for a further showroom in New Jersey.

Mr Kumar explained that the success of the showrooms had led the company to start setting up the malls, which he said would sell gold and diamonds at "reasonable rates". He also announced plans for similar malls in Rajahmundry, Chennai, Bangalore and Coimbatore.

The mall in Dwarakanagar will be opened by model and film actress Katrina Kaif.
