Jewellery sector eyes up new trendThursday, 8th April 2004 (4114 views) The latest trend to hit the jewellery sector could see gold used in innovative eyeball jewellery.Launched in the Netherlands, new innovative designs have seen jewellery lovers wearing the 'jewel eye' under the cornea of their eyes. Gerrit Melles, director of the Netherlands Institute for Innovative Ocular Surgery told China View: "In my view it is a little more subtle than (body) piercing. It is a bit of a fun thing and a very personal thing for people." At present the pieces are available in platinum but with the growing demand in the gold sector for innovative and unique designs, they may well be seen in the gold jewellery market. Items include either a glittering half moon or heart design and are specially developed to wear on the eyeball. The jewellery pieces sparkle when light is shone on them and the Netherlands surgery reportedly now has a waiting list of customers wanting to undergo the jewellery surgery procedure.
