DWTC announces details of international jewellery show

Monday, 16th February 2004 (4552 views)

The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has announced details of its jewellery show for the end of the year as it begins the long process of throwing one of the gold retail industry's premier events.

The group will stage International Jewellery Dubai (IJD) from December 6th to the 10th, in move designed to increase exhibitors and visitors to the event.

DWTC director general Mubarak bin Fahad told the Khaleej Times that the date offered organisers plenty of time to prepare for the event.

'The decision to schedule the dates of IJD in December was made after careful evaluation and in close consultation with our core exhibitors as well as after extensive research with our show visitors and we selected these dates as the most favourable to hold this event,' he explained.

'December is an ideal month to re-stock jewellery stores immediately after the Eid rush and pre-empts the year-end sales surge,' he added.

Mr bin Fahad also remarked on the prominence of the region, declaring that the “ever-increasing profile of the show both among exhibitors and buyers underscores Dubai's prominence as a leading player in the regional gems and jewellery market'.

At last year's event more than 10,000 trade visitors and high-end consumers came to the show, providing a major boost for jewellers and retailers.

The Middle East and India are thought to account for more than 40 per cent of the world gold consumption, with Dubai recognised as one of the world's major gold jewellery centres.
