The promotion of gold jewellery was praised this week, as the Gold and Jewellery Group won an award at this year's Dubai Shopping Festival.

Ending yesterday, the festival was in its ninth year and brings together companies from all over the world showing new developments and innovation.

The Gold and Jewellery group was established in 1996 and since then has become a prestigious trade body aiming to develop and sustain the status of Dubai as the 'City of Gold'.

A key sponsor of the festival, the group continuously runs innovative promotions of gold jewellery both during the festival and at other times.

According to Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayam, a member of the DSF Supreme Committee, the number of key sponsors and companies involved in the festival are on the increase and this year's festival was a great success.

He announced at the closing ceremony: 'The Dubai Shopping Festival continues on its steady pace of growth year after year, based on the vision of Sheikh Mohammed and has now become a global model demonstrating how people of this world can live together and continually strive for innovation and new development.'

Certificates of appreciation were also given to key sponsors for their efforts, and their role was highlighted as key to creating such a success story.
